Old Corinthians raise £1000 for St John’s Nursery and win tournament.

1 - 1, 3 - 2 on penalties

This morning ,16th October 2026, we held a charity tournament in aid of St John's Nursery. 8 teams from across the region battled it out for The Jake Knight Memorial Trophy. In a closely contested final, Old Corinthians "Blues" beat MSA Burntwood on penalties to win the trophy for the second year.

The Blues won all of their three league games beating old rivals Alvechurch 1-0 in the first game thanks to an Alan Hewitt penalty, defeating Coventry & District 2-1 in the second games thanks to Alan Hewitts penalty and long range strike and finally Tamworth 1-0 thanks again to another Alan Hewitt penalty.

This set up the final with longstanding local rivals Burntwood. It was a close run final with Burntwood taking the lead late in the second half only to commit a fourth running offence and hand Corinthians the opportunity to equalise. The penalty was once again converted by Super Alan Hewitt with just 30 seconds remaining of norm time. This meant a penalty shoot out to decide the tournament; Super Alan Hewitt converted again his fourth penalty to level it up at 1-1, Phil 'Chopper' Metcalf stepped up to make it 2-2 before Burntwood missed their third penalty. However Keith Randall who had missed a penalty the previous week against the same side rifled it in to the net so we could fittingly take the trophy home for the second year running in memory of our old friend Jake Knight.

Congratulations to Old Corinthians "Blues" and thank you to all of the teams who took part and donated so generously to our cause. Thank you to the 4 referees who gave their time freely, Brendan, Billy, Ken and Colin. Thanks to The Old Corinthians club and committee. Thank you to Rushall Olympic FC for the use of your superb facilities. The main winners are the children who will benefit from the equipment that will be purchased with the £1,000 we were able to donate to them. Our next charity tournament will be held in February 2027.
