Golds take the honours in derby game

2 - 0

The Golds took the honours in the derby with a disciplined and organised performance to beat the Clarets 2-0. The Golds got off to the perfect start when Alan Hewitt received the ball from the kick off and approached the Clarets goal and scored low in the corner, a goal after 7 seconds according to the referee! This early goal seemed to affect the Clarets confidence and they never reqlly got going rarely troubling an organised Golds defence. Chances came for Golds to extend their lead but it wasn't untill Alan Hewitt picked up a loose pass in midlfield and closed in on the Clarets goal to notch his second. The second half went much the same way as the first with Clarets finding goal scoring opportunities hard to come by, Jim Whittaker had a great chance to extend the Golds lead but fired staright at the keeper. Special mention must go to Bill Appleby who had a great game on full debut and rolled back the years with an energetic performance.
